“visionary feminist thinkers … have always understood one of the ways that we heal the gender warfare between men and women is to teach both groups, as girls and as boys, how to be loving people. a self-loving man is automatically a feminist. because he’s automatically going to have to resist patriarchy to be self-loving in the first place. feminism, in its best sense, is a movement that calls girls and boys, women and men, to deeper understandings of the meaning of love.”
“as all advocates of feminist politics know most people do not understand sexism or if they do they think it is not a problem. masses of people think that feminism is always and only about women seeking to be equal to men. and a huge majority of these folks think feminism is anti-male. their misunderstanding of feminist politics reflects the reality that most folks learn about feminism from patriarchal mass media.”

Feminism = in contextul luarii de atitudine, a fi aderent(a) a feminismului inseamna a fi implicata in miscarea sociala menita sa puna capat sexismului, exploatarii sexiste si opresiunii.

Talibanism in Technology by Deepa Kandaswamy
text from: BRIDGING THE GAP
The article examines the global phenomenon of “technological talibanism” and seven reasons why women in science and technology have remained invisible through out the ages.
Seven reasons why women in technology remain invisible…
Most of us have heard of the Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the
modern world. We also know it was built in memory of Mumtaz Mahal.
But how many of us know of her aunt, Nor Mahal? She invented the
device to perform attar distillation from flowers to make perfumes.
Despite 4,000 years of contribution, we do not know about most
pioneering women in technology—like Empress Shi Dun, who invented
paper, Penthesilea, who invented the battle axe, and Catherine Green,
who invented the cotton gin (though Eli Whitney holds the patent).
Florence Nightingale, the famous nurse, was also a brilliant
mathematician, and her contribution as the inventor of the pie chart that
businesses, technologists, researchers and governments throughout the
world use today, is virtually unknown.
This continues even in this ‘Information Age’ where we boast of living in
knowledge-based societies. How many of us know of Helen Greiner, a
scientist and the only woman to run a robot company in the world or of
Vanitha Rangaraju who is the only Indian woman to win an Oscar for her
technical work for the movie Shrek?

haha, this is pure genius:
strawfeminism council meets,
brings strawfeminist goals into new millenium…I met with the other strawfeminists to discuss your deep uncomfort. Guess what! We’ve decided to take a break from all the bra-burning, bloke-bashing, and make-up banning with which we have been obsessed to the exclusion of all else for the past 40 years. A good thing, too, because you know that enormous pink ash cloud enveloping the planet? The one resulting from the tons and tons of angrily incinerated spandex and cheap scratchy lace? Well, that cloud turned out to be the real culprit behind global warming.
Also, we were starting to get complaints from the hospitals. Turns out they were getting so jammed up with the bloodied corpses of all the blokes we’ve bashed that there was hardly any room left for the boob augmentation and labiaplasty cases.
Oh, and you’ll love this: as for the makeup, well, it’s mandatory now. Why? Oh, lots of reasons. For instance, we now believe that liberation has eluded us because our skin has not been glowing or radiant enough (I won’t lie to you; there’s been some pretty severe undereye puffiness and a few tragically enlarged pores, too). And, sure, we’re a little late to the party, but we have finally realized that in order to be taken seriously by liberal white males we must more closely resemble centerfolds. Not to mention that we just love how girly it makes us feel to have a beauty regimen! And you know what, we can no longer deny that real empowerfulness comes from participating as consumers in a $180 billion-a-year global industry that’s scientifically formulated to promote women’s insecurities and self-esteem issues. …
Strawfeminism. It’s not just for humorless feminazis who don’t shave their legs anymore.

[despre slam poetry: “One of the most vital and energetic movements in poetry during the 1990s, slam has revitalized interest in poetry in performance. Poetry began as part of an oral tradition, and movements like the Beats and the poets of Negritude were devoted to the spoken and performed aspects of their poems. This interest was reborn through the rise of poetry slams across America; while many poets in academia found fault with the movement, slam was well received among young poets and poets of diverse backgrounds as a democratizing force. This generation of spoken word poetry is often highly politicized, drawing upon racial, economic, and gender injustices as well as current events for subject manner.”

bafta!
ps: nimeni nu reprezinta toate feministele, nici o opinie in particular nu reprezinta toate opiniile feministe, deci noi nu vom incerca sa facem asta.

Helping Women Who Sell Sex: The Construction of Benevolent Identities
Abstract: Social interventions aimed at helping the group positioned as most needy in Europe today, migrant women who sell sex, can be understood by examining that time, 200 years ago, when ‘the prostitute’ was identified as needing to be saved. Before, there was no class of people who viewed their mission to be ‘helping’ working-class women who sold sex, but, during the ‘rise of the social,’ the figure of the ‘prostitute’ as pathetic victim came to dominate all other images. At the same time, demographic changes meant that many women needed and wanted to earn money and independence, yet no professions thought respectable were open to them. Simultaneous with the creation of the prostitute-victim, middle class women were identified as peculiarly capable of raising them up and showing the way to domesticity. These ‘helpers’ constructed a new identity and occupational sphere for themselves, one considered worthy and even prestigious. Nowadays, to question ‘helping’ projects often causes anger or dismissal. A genealogical approach, which shows how governmentality functioned in the past, is easier to accept, and may facilitate the taking of a reflexive attitude in the present.
