Scriu pentru ca au fost 2 articole post-ladyfest in presa mainstream – care au si fost cam singurele (in afara de alte cateva anunturi care informau ca festivalul are loc intre…, la… si contine…) – 2 articole care m-au dezamagit prin continutul negativist si abordarea critica mai mult destructiva decat orice altceva.

an image and its message

apropos of the old “sexual politics of meat” debate…

here is a classic misogynistic illustration used to promote meat by telling us to “break the dull beef habit” (by imagining a woman‘s body made up of “tender juicy” beef cuts);

and here are two possible ways of making use of that image in order to promote vegetarianism:

  • peta‘s take, which casts a real woman in the same pose, makes the same “cuts of meat” markings on her body and just adds the text “all animals have the same parts”:

  • an example of what i would consider a critical take, whose message to the viewer is no longer a plea to look at a cow’s body in the same way as at a woman’s body and viceversa, but rather to STOP viewing anyone – human and non-human animals alike – as being made up of “cuts” and ready for consumption, because we all should have the same right to bodily autonomy and integrity (the ecofeminist message):

    Prezentarea istoriei si activitatii grupului de video activism ak kraak din Berlin in contextul miscarii anarhiste din Germania si internationale cat si atelierul despre moduri alternative de a produce filme documentare vor cuprinde idei despre strategii de auto-organizare, despre conceptul de do it yourself, despre o raportare critica la filmul documentar, diferita de cea mainstream corporatista, despre feluri de a lucra impreuna. Va fi proiectata o selectie de filme din arhiva ak kraak realizate in perioada 1990-2007 si va putea fi consultata o arhiva cu postere si materiale informative despre activitatea grupului.

    Project Space este parte din proiectul Spatiul Public Bucuresti / Public Art Bucharest 2007.

    Ce mai fac eroii nostri?

    Va invitam in 08.10.2007 la orele 19:00 pe strada Pictor Arthur Verona nr 19 la prezentarea Ce mai fac eroii nostri? sustinuta de catre Cristian Cercel

    In timpul national-comunismului promovat de Ceausescu, manualele scolare (de istorie si literatura romana mai cu seama) prezentau o naratiune eroizata a istoriei romanilor (n.b.: istoria era a romanilor, si nu a Romaniei). Fara existenta unor alternative autentice, monopolul producerii si reproducerii de identitate se afla in mainile Partidului, unul dintre canalele cele mai importante prin care o identitate nationala departe de a fi all-inclusive era propagata fiind sistemul educational. Care este insa situatia acum, dupa ce manualele alternative au devenit o realitate cotidiana pentru elevii de liceu? Cum o mai duc acum vajnicii nostri eroi nationali? Cat de diferita este actuala ‘naratiune romana’ fata de cea din epoca national-comunista?

    Cristian Cercel este traducator, absolvent al departamentului de Studii Europene din cadrul Facultatii de Litere a Universitatii Bucuresti, Master of Arts in Nationalism Studies, la Central European University, Budapesta.
