The seventh Eclectic Tech Carnival will be held from Sunday the 25th until Saturday the 31st of May in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The /ETC is a unique tech skill-share that has been held annually since 2002. The emphasis has always been women sharing their experiences, knowledge and skills around free software, open hardware and universal interoperability of systems in a fun way.

Crime, Sexuality and Gender – Queer Zagreb, October 2008.

Queer Zagreb is an international festival which has been taking place in Croatia since 2003 and has been presenting international and local artists, academics and activists to an audience of cca 3000 – 5000 per year. Queer Zagreb festival constructs its programme each year around a certain theme which is presented throughout its programme. So far we have touched such issues as -postsocialist queer identity-, -heteronormativity of childhoods-, -transgression of private into public- and -Balkans queer-. For our 2008 edition the main topic of interest is -Crime, sexuality and gender- to be presented in different forms during the event – visual arts, performance, film and an academic conference.

The Center invites applications for its RESEARCH ASSOCIATESHIPS for 2008-2009 from scholars and teachers at all levels of the educational system, as well as from artists, community organizers and political activists, both local and international. Associates are provided with offices in our spacious facility, library privileges, and the collegiality of a diverse community of feminists. Research Associate applications are accepted for either a semester or the academic year. The Center supports projects in all disciplines so long as they focus centrally on women or gender. Regular Research Associateships are non-stipendiary. We accept about 15-18 Research Associates per year.

Bataia e rupta din rai?

Spuneam zilele trecute ca violenta culturala determina prejudecati. “Unde loveste parintele creste carne. Femeia trebuie batuta, daca tu nu stii de ce, stie ea. Bataia e rupta din rai.” Sunt numai cateva exemple de exprimari ale “culturii populare “ romanesti. Grav este ca aceasta “cultura populara” violenta legitimeaza si perpetueaza niste comportamente, reactii si moduri de viata. Legitimeaza si perpetueaza violenta impotriva femeii si a copilului.

Hai sa presupunem ca aveti un copil. Are cinci ani si a disparut din fata blocului. E intuneric de doua ore, si ati alarmat vecinii, rudele, politia, salvarea si pompierii.
Si il gasiti, sau apare singur… intr-un tarziu. Rudele alarmate se intorc pe la casele lor. Sunteti, stresati, obositi, nervosi si vreti sa nu se mai intample asa ceva. Si incepeti sa va loviti copilul strigand: Sa nu mai faci asta! Niciodata! Ma auzi? Niciodata! Nu e voie. Ne-ai speriat pe toti. Nu. Mai. Face. Asta. Ai inteles?

Apoi va linistiti, dar vreti sa fiti sigur ca nu se mai intampla si – didactic – incercati sa recapitulati problema cu copilul si sa trageti o concluzie. “Bun, si acuma spune-mi, de ce te-am batut?” Si el isi ridica spre dumneavoastra ochisorii inca inlacrimati si va raspunde: “Pentru ca esti mai mare si mai tare decat mine”.
